Zadina Multi-Point Game & Red Wings Suffer More InjuriesSeptember 15, 2018
Heading into day two, the Red Wings determined to put the bad news of Zetterberg behind them. With a major roster spot in the top line opening up, are there some strong strong cases being made for the spot. It won’t be easy to fill the Z-void, but each practice brings more and more talent to the forefront like the top pick, Filip Zadina.

Red Wings Ravaged by Injuries
Joe Veleno and Martin Frk did not participate in the morning skate today. Both considered minor injuries, they are nonetheless a setback. For Frk, it’s horrendous timing. Though re-signed with the Wings, Frk needs to dramatically improve his production and accuracy if he hopes to have a long-term contract.
Veleno, one of Detroit’s most promising new prospects, has some time to improve but this set back will be a disappointment for him. However, it is minor and he could very well just be resting a few games. It’s unknown whether he’ll participate in the Red and White game this weekend. If it is as minor as it sounds, Veleno will likely be right back on track following training camp.
Zadina’s Multi-Point Scrimmage
As per custom, the Red Wings held a scrimmage this afternoon between team Howe and team Delvecchio. Taking a landslide 6-3 victory, team white (Howe) owned the game. Top prospect Filip Zadina had three points to his name including two goals and one assist.
Zadina dazzled the crowd in what was dubbed a “Datsyukian Deke” during a penalty shot. He stumbled a little bit to gain his footing in the Prospect Tournament. However, he has gained some confidence and patience with the puck. His shootout goal was well timed and placed. Zadina boosted the point lead but also gave the crowd something to look forward to. Red Wings fans are grappling for hope in the organization, and they seemed to have planted said hope on young Zadina.
Getting Ready for the Alumni & Celebrity Showdown
The team gets a night off to make way for the legends of the game. Tonight, Centre Ice will host the Alumni and Celebrity game that will have some of the most well-known former Red Wings and current staff gracing its roster. Head Coach Jeff Blashill will be standing in the net tonight and former Grind Liners, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty, Joe Kocur, and Kris Draper are expected to be in attendance as well.
Day three will commence Sunday with a series of practices followed by the Red and White game at noon.
