Egor Afanasyev, Alex Yakovenko, Ryan Snowden: USHL Players of the WeekNovember 26, 2018
Egor Afanasyev – 3 Games Played – 3 Goals, 4 Assists
For the second time in as many weeks, two Muskegon Lumberjacks players have been named as the USHL’s players of the week. Muskegon Lumberjacks forward, Egor Afanasyev has the honors this week. Egor tallied three goals and seven points in only three games.
Afanasyev recorded three of his four assists in the Lumberjacks’ 8-0 shutout victory against Team USA on Wednesday. He also earned two goals and added another assist Friday against the Green Bay Gamblers. He would find the back of the net in his third consecutive game Saturday as well, earning him forward of the week honors.
Afanasyev was named as a B-Rated prospect on NHL Scouting’s Players to Watch List in November, making him one of three Lumberjacks’ players to be named to the list. The B-rating translates to a second or third-round candidate according to NHL Central Scouting.
Alex Yakovenko – 3 Games Played – 2 Goals, 2 Assist
Alex Yakovenko was named the USHL’s defender of the week for the second consecutive week after he scored another two goals and five points in three games. He would record a goal and two assists in Wednesday’s 8-0 victory before scoring another goal and recording another assist Friday to bring his totals to seven goals and 21 points through 17 games.
His 21 points lead all USHL defenders in scoring and put him in third on the Lumberjacks.
This was Yakovenko’s third USHL Player of the Week honors of his career. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him find his way back onto this list in the future.
