Red Wings Release 2019-20 Prospect Tournament ScheduleJuly 15, 2019
The Detroit Red Wings today, released their 2019-20 Training Camp and Prospect Tournament schedule. Slated to begin September 6th, prospects from several NHL teams (listed below) will battle for their place on the roster. Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Michigan will host the event for the 21st season.
Prospect Tournament Impact League-Wide
The Prospect Tournament is the springboard for not only many camp invitees, but draft picks as well, looking to get a taste for the competition. The scheduled tandem style between two full-size rinks, prospect teams from Dallas, Minnesota, and many more will play scrimmage style matches. Along with the scrimmages, development and drills will be performed by all teams.
Several notable prospects such as Andrei Svechnikov, Filip Zadina and Miro Heiskanen have made their way through Centre Ice on their way to the NHL. Over the course of tournament history, more than 600 skaters have played in the NHL.
8 NHL Teams to Be Represented
The Prospect Tournament format will consist of 8 NHL teams represented and divided into divisions. The Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers will be present.
All teams will compete for their place in the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup on September 10th.
Tickets will go on sale on July 16th.
The tournament’s presence in Traverse City over the years has been an enormous asset to the city. More than 200 scouts, hundreds of family members, team staff and prospects from around the world, travel to Traverse City and help stimulate the town.
The tournament aids in the growing tourist attractions of the city. It also allows players a chance to get involved in the community. Along with the tournament, Red Wings players will be active in the surrounding communities encouraging the growth of the game and city impact.
