Established in 1996, the Grand Rapids Griffins are two-time Calder Cup Champions. The Griffins make their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Griffins are the primary affiliate to the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings.

Scores of NHL hopefuls and AHL professionals call Grand Rapids home. Current Red Wings like Petr Mrazek, Luke Glendening and Anthony Mantha were products of the AHL team’s system.

Griffins Youth Foundation

Beyond being one of the top teams in the AHL, the Griffins play an integral role in the community through the Griffins Youth Foundation. Aiding in providing children with the gear and training to participate in the game of hockey, the Griffins give the area’s youth the start they need.

Grand Rapids can boast being an integral part of numerous now-NHL players’ stories. As the primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, the Griffins and their fans have the honor of being considered home by many elite skaters. The trials of the players are often overlooked and reduced to their on-ice stats. How many goals they score become more important than them as people. Their struggles, endless travel, and sometimes never really having a place to call home doesn’t show on paper at the end of 60 minutes.
