Muskegon lumberjacks

The Muskegon Lumberjacks call Muskegon, Michigan home. The Lumberjacks are currently housed in the LC Walker Arena. As a part of the USHL, the Lumberjacks host some of the world’s most talented junior hockey players.

Once known as the Muskegon Fury, the Lumberjacks can boast a host of current NHL stars. Justin Abdelkader of the Detroit Red Wings, and current coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins, Todd Nelson, are among the notable mentions coming from the USHL.

Junior players worldwide, make their NHL debuts as a result of this elite league. Representing their countries, the Lumberjacks battle against the rest of the league for the NHL draft spots and the attention of renown colleges nationwide.

The 2019 NHL Entry Draft is coming up so we spoke about some draft hopefuls and some notable mentions! Egor Afanasyev who is draft eligible this year, Mikael Hakkarainen who was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks last year, and Alex Yakovenko who isn’t eligible but is one of the top defensemen in the USHL.

VIDEO: Brandon Bussi Lumberjacks Goalie on NCAA & USHL

The Muskegon Lumberjacks are 20-4-1 currently. Much of that success is due to the magic of goalie Brandon Bussi. In his first year in the USHL, Bussi has shown great skill and poise within the net. Brandon is now committed to Western Michigan University. Bussi holds a GAA 2.04 and SV% of 0.926 as of December 16, 2018. In 23 games, Bussi is 20-2-1.
