Prospects are the future of hockey. Scattered throughout the world are elite athletes waiting for their shot at the NHL. Consequently, we like dive into some of these wildly talented athletes and assess their viability in the league.

Not all prospects are created equal just as leagues are not all the same, so we at Access Hockey MI like to pick it apart a bit. Diving into numbers, personality and ethic, we dissect each player’s history to better understand them.

The future of the game rests on the shoulders of the new talent coming down the line. Much like many other folks, we want to understand what makes these people special.

Louie & Nic Belpedio Iowa Wild & Lumberjacks Rising Defensemen

Nic Belpedio is a recent addition to the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Spending the 2017-18 season on their affiliate list, he worked his way to a roster spot this season. Belpedio is a familiar name in the junior league, as Nic’s brother Louie Belpedio, also spent time in the USHL. Following in his footsteps, but not living in his shadow, Nic is making his own way to the pros.

NHL Entry Draft Hopefuls Making Strong Cases with Lumberjacks

The Muskegon Lumberjacks split the weekend games with the Youngstown Phantoms. The rivalry runs deep for the Phantoms and Lumberjacks. The Phantoms own the longest winning streak in USHL history (17 games). Conversely, Muskegon had owned a five-game streak against the very same Phantoms until Saturday. Having only their second loss of the season, the Lumberjacks are still in excellent shape. Throughout their successful regular season, several of the current roster skaters are NHL Entry Draft eligible and making strong cases.
